There are several stories I’ve wanted to tell but the stories as single entities didn’t warrant their own entry. So I’m doing it up recap style in this one entry…enjoy!

“Things that go bump under the shed”

This story was relayed to me from Li’l Foot’s Daddy. I wish I had been there to see it and video tape it. It’s this kind of story that just doesn’t happen when there IS a video camera around so I’m not sure I would’ve gotten it anyway, but the story is definitely worth telling nonetheless. If for no other reason than the visual it exudes when you consider it.

A couple weeks ago we noticed that the dog, when attached to his lead in the back of our house would gravitate and hover around the shed. Usually he wanders the back yard as far as his lead will let him roam, but he wasn’t interested in anything other than something under the shed. This only means one thing, there is something setting up shop under there. It’s probably got a duplex by now with all the amenities you could want in an animal house.

LFD finally went out to investigate. There is chicken wire around the bottom of the shed to keep such critters out of there, but who knows, animals have their ways of getting in one way or another so it wouldn’t surprise me. In order to really see under there LFD had to move the wooden ramp that he built (to get the tractor in and out). He flipped the ramp up on it’s side away from the shed and got down on his belly to check out what was under the shed. He laid down, the dog hovering close by, the supervisor that he is. LFd checked out what was under the shed. And that’s when this giant anteater darted out from under the shed at LFD…nah, I’m just kidding. I just thought I was building up the suspense so much that you were just gripping the edge of your seat wondering what on earth would attack LFD’s face when he was down there.

So while it wasn’t an anteater…sorry I couldn’t resist toying with you! LFD was laying there with his head cocked to the side and he felt something like a drip on his temple area. He thought a drop of water hit him from the roof of the shed. When he went to wipe the drop of water off his temple, it wasn’t a drop of water at all, but a small frog that jumped onto his face. Apparently LFD had disrupted the frog’s surroundings and he just wanted LFD to know he knew he was there. Heehee!!!

How did she know that?

Again, a couple weeks ago, this story comes from LFD. I overheard it but didn’t know what I was hearing until later when LFD told me what happened.

LFD and Li’l Foot were on their way up the stairs for the night. I was downstairs checking my email one last time and shutting things down. They walked up the stairs. LFD forgot something and came back down the stairs to get it, and naturally Li’l Foot followed him back down. When they reached the landing Li’l Foot pointed to a picture…this picture actually…

So Li’l Foot pointed to that sweet little white haired lady on the left side (my grandmother, my dad’s mother) of the picture and said “Boppi”! Now, my grandmother’s name was not Boppi “officially” but that’s what she went by when her grandkids were referring to her. My sister made it up when she was really little because she couldn’t say “grandma” and it just stuck.

But, here’s the thing, we don’t talk about my grandmother to Li’l Foot. We’ve never even showed her a picture. We just haven’t talked about her because Li’l Foot is just too little to understand who she is (my dad’s mother). My dad passed away in March 2001 and my grandmother passed away in October 2002. We just don’t talk about them. We never have. I mean we will someday, but there’s just no possible way Li’l Foot would’ve heard us utter the name “Boppi” ever, so how. did. she. know? It’s just weird. And a bit creepy.

My mom thinks when I was having trouble getting pregnant my grandmother sent Li’l Foot to us!

Daddy wants privacy!

LFD has a thing about going into the bathroom and just expecting to be let alone and have his own privacy. I’ve tried to convey to him, that in a house with a toddler, there are no boundaries and anything is possible until said toddler learns otherwise and accepts those boundaries. Emphasis on accepts!

Last week LFD got up out of bed and went potty. He closed the door behind his expecting he would be given his rightful privacy. Not long after closing the door and beginning to pee, Li’l Foot barged in. She likes barging in. Barging in satisfies her curiosity. She needs to know what people are doing at all times. She hovered around LFD and he tried his best shield her from seeing his you know what. She didn’t stick around long though. She made a quick retreat and ran back to me in the bedroom loudly exclaiming along the way, “MOMMYYYYYY, DADDY MAKE BUBBLES IN THE POTTY!!!…MOMMYYYYYYYY, DADDY MAKE BUBBLES IN THE POTTY!!!” He is her hero! It is confirmed.

I guess the Clorox tab we have in the tank of the toilet helps make bubbles in the potty when stirred up enough! Heh!

This concludes the first installment of “Short Stories”! I hope you’ve enjoyed them. As we have a toddler, I am sure they will be in full supply in the coming months.
