Last year around this time I received and instant message from my mom telling me I must “click on such and such a link to see the ospreys nest”.  It was simply “amazing” she said.  So I tried to go see what all the fuss was about, but alas, corporate America puts firewalls up on networks and ruins all the fun of “not actually working” while “at work”.  Such the fuddy duddy that Corporate America is!!!  Hmph!!!  So I just relied on mom telling me every day what she was seeing and whatnot and I feigned excitement for her excitement, only really able to go by how awesome she “said” it was, never actually seeing for myself.  I listened as she told me how they were tidying up their nest from the previous year, how they had laid their eggs, how they sat on their eggs and one of the ospreys would go get food while the other sat and then vice versa, and then came the day the eggs hatched and OMG you would’ve thought world peace actually was achieved with that instant message I received telling me all about it.  Oh and the day one of the ospreys pooped on the camera lens and mom was so upset because she couldn’t see what was going on in the nest anymore…but wait…okay, all better, someone went out into the marsh and cleaned off the lens, so phew, mom was the happy osprey stalker once again.  And oooooo…the momma just went off for a little while and then came back with a nibble of food for the babies and she’s feeding them from her mouth.  And then the baby ospreys learned how to fly.  And so on and so on.  This went on for months, people…MONTHS!!!  I received the osprey update daily.  In all honesty it was exciting, but I would’ve rather been able to watch for myself because it did sound rather awesome!!!

So today one of the first message I received from my mom was “THE OSPREYS ARE BACK, GO LOOK!”  And she left me the direct link to the video feed, and then told me if that didn’t work go to the main website and click on the Osprey video feed icon.  (I know you’re just dying at this point for me to just give you the link already, aren’t you?!?!?! I’m so going to make you sweat this one out…mwa ha ha ha ha!!)  I clicked with hesitation, because if I had to go through MONTHS of instant message osprey stalker updates without actually being able to see them, I might’ve had a conniption, right here in my cubicle!!!  Because while it’s fabulous of mom to keep me up to date on the goings on of the osprey goings on, I really want to see for myself this year.  So I clicked and waited as my cursor turned into a rotating wheel indicating that my computer was thinking about whether it wanted to comply with my request or not.  And then?  A picture!  Of the ospreys!  Live!  On my ‘puter screen. Victory!!!  And what was right there up in my face?  As if to say…”Oh halllloo, welcome to my home, please excuse the mess we just got back from our southern vacay” was:

That shadow is the camera.  And apparently that’s the lady of the nest…because she has spots on her chest.  And the tide is coming in.  She kind of looks like she’s about to give a state of the audubon society union address, doesn’t she?  I do have to say, after only watching them today, it is fascinating.  Most of what you see in the picture is nest that is left over from last year, just the top layer or so of “stuff” is new.  The more yellowy looking stuff is new.

I’m really looking forward to stalking them this year.  I can’t wait for the little lady to lay her eggs.  And then watch them hatch. And then watch them feed the little ones.  It should be an interesting adventure.  And so without further ado, I give you the website.  www.ctaudubon.org or you can go directly to the web cam by clicking on this link.  The camera takes a succession of pictures so that you see a time lapse of pictures.  I got another picture of one of them fluffing it’s wings earlier today but left it at work.  I also caught a shadow of the camera with an osprey sitting on top of it.  I also instant messaged mom right away when I caught a glimpse of a sea gull hangin’ out on the osprey pad today.  I was all, “warning, warning!!! IMPOSTER!!! Who do we call?” And then it left and all was well again and no sooner did the sea gull leave the osprey nest the daddy came back not 2 seconds later.  Well, with that, I will leave you to obsess over the ospreys.  Okay, so at times its kind of like watching paint dry, but others it’s really exciting.  Be sure to tune in!!!

I’ll have you know…

I bought binders to put my CDs in so that I don’t have to watch helplessly as the jewel cases take up more room than they’re worth. And my CDs in this binder? Are not in alphabetical order!!! No joke!!! I just didn’t have it in me to alphabetize them since they’ve been sitting in the cabinet since we moved in, un-al-pha-bet-ized!!!

There! Are! You! All! Happy!

Now, if you come over and ask me for a specific CD to play, I won’t know exactly where it is because it’s not placed in the binder in alphabetical order!!! So you can make fun of me all you want for alphabetizing them and now you can make fun of me because it’s driving me absolutely batty that they are not in order, but there’s just not enough time in my life to do something like that anymore.

This is Li’l Foot’s uncle in the throws of kitchen renovations in their house. It is going to be so awesome when he’s done…keep up the good work big brother!!!

And here’s my niece and nephew…for all intents and purposes I’ll keep with the tradition of renaming my family members so as to keep their anonymity. My niece is LilPie and my nephew is Li’l-T!

And here they are in their back yard, making their Aunt proud by playing in the mud puddle (they didn’t call me Mucky Ducky for nothin’ when I was a kid…I earned that nickname fair and square)!!!

And this…THIS ONE…is my absolute favorite…this is why I love my LilPie…she’s just not afraid to get down and dirty!!! And I so can’t wait for Li’l Foot to do this!!! Maybe then she’ll get a new nickname like Mucky Ducklet or something!!!

Seriously…how CUTE are they???
