I was at lunch yesterday and I was sitting with the regular crew. We got ont he topic of babies and breastfeeding, etc. etc. etc. At one point someone brought up that a family member was pregnant but no one was supposed to know because she wasn’t telling anyone at all but everyone could just tell that she was. I reasoned that maybe she was telling anyone because of any number of reasons. Perhaps she wasn’t sure yet? Maybe she wanted to be, and thought maybe she was but was worried she was having a miscarriage or something? Who knows!

So this person was talking about her family member being overweight of the obese variety and was telling us how they want to get pregnant. I chimed in a gave her my example of how we tried and tried for 2 & 1/2 years to get pregnant and it seemed it didn’t happen until I lost weight (25 pounds to be precise). And somehow my coworker came back saying something to the effect that she is really obese and then said, “you know, like, twice your size!” (Ummm…excuse me? ~ is what I wanted to say) I tried not to notice. I just rolled with it and let it go. Afterall I am the new girl and I don’t need to be singled out quite yet. I just didn’t need to draw that kind of attention and have a confrontation with someone at work. Know what I mean? Do you think I should’ve just bucked up and had a spine and said something, go ahead you can tell me, I can take it!

And then about an hour after we got back upstairs to work she came over to me and said, “I hope you weren’t offended by what I said, I didn’t mean it the way it sounded. I was just sitting at my desk thinking about it and I couldn’t believe I said that and I didn’t mean it!” Of course again I just kind of brushed it off and told her it was fine, don’t worry about it, I didn’t take it the way it sounded. And that was the end of it.

And then she called me about a 1/2 hour later and said, “it’s going to be nice weather the rest of the week, and I called **such and such other coworker** and she’s up for it and I was wondering if you wanted to walk with us at lunch”. To her point when we had those nice few days in the beginning of January we did walk together, and she was just letting me know because we liked to have our sneakers handy so that we didn’t have to walk in our work shoes. But still, just a very weird interaction with the same girl all day. I guess if I’m going to run in that rave this coming weekend I should really do something considering I haven’t been to the gym since before LF got sick and all. I think that’s on my to do list for tomorrow night actually.

So what would you have done in this situation? Would you have continued it and stood up for yourself or would you have taken it at face value and not really taken offense?
